The enhancing of the expositive spaces of the Museo Diocesano located in the Bishop’s Palace of Cremona represented a prestigious project but also a challenge for Steel Group. The basic need arose from the necessity to find a great solution to close the inside yard between the two wings of the building. In order to give life to the project of the architect Giorgio Palù, Steel Group realized a transparent covering with double glazing selective glass, specially chosen to reduce the radiation and contain the heating of the rooms below. It was then hung to this structure, thanks to the use of steel cables, a massive spiral staircase to have access to the different floors, composed of six fights of stairs and 165 metal and frosted glass steps, one different from each other.

Despite the huge size, the sinuous shapes together with the game of led lights set between the transparencies of the landings, managed to give lightness to the whole composition, overcoming in a harmonious way the height difference between a floor and another that characterized the ancient building. To give the perception of bright and floating elegance also contributed the walkways which linked the two parts of the building, made of white powder coated iron and glass. Steel Group’s intervention was then concluded with the creation of important elements for the exhibition spaces such as customized bases for all the artifacts and the different glass cases, but also design refined details like the Gualander, original supports panning for the paintings such as benches, bean bags and sofas made of steel and upholstered in soft leather.

THE RESULT

A great visual impact’s enhancement which was custom designed and realized to support art, history and faith during the travel between past and present.
